Welcome to my VERY first furniture blog and documented painting project of 2019!!! I've decided to start the year with a bang and a whole lot of happy! Its a cold cold January here in Texas.....so I'm bringing in a little sunshine with Daisy yellow....and a mix of blue skies!
This Eastlake style buffet was gorgeous in its original almost ebony finish. But it very dark and had details that were completely unnoticed with its dark wood carvings! My client asked me to lighten and brighten it for her.....so I brought in the sun!
I cleaned thoroughly with White Lightning and primed with a single coat of BOSS in clear. I painted the entire cabinet in two full coats of Daisy by Dixie Belle Paint.

If you'd like...you can watch a full one hour video of me painting this piece yellow....AND discussing cleaning and reasons for priming furniture on my You Tube channel here.
I then painted each panel insert with one coat of Fluff....also by Dixie Belle...in preparation for the design transfers that I'd be using next.
Prepped and ready...for design transfers!
Quality design transfers are a game changer for furniture painters and DIY'ers. They really add visual interest to a piece....setting it apart from the basic mainstream painted furniture....without the need to be highly skilled with handpainting!!
I used TWO design transfers by Redesign with Prima for the insets. You can purchase these in my shop section below...or click right here!
And did I mention how easy they are to use??? I highly recommend you give them a try! You can watch me apply these in my You Tube video here!
I used Top Coat in Clear to seal the transfers in the insets. And I decided to go with Easy Peasy Spray wax as my sealer for the yellow paint! I love the soft matte feel of the spray wax....especially after a piece has been sanded down and distressed like this one! I don't get the opportunity to use the clear spray wax very often...as I usually use Gator Hide for durability. This piece won't get daily wear...and the look and feel of the cured wax is perfect for the overall style here.
I love the way this buffet turned out!!! It is fresh....and happy....and just makes me smile! I do know that my client is asking me to make some changes on the final piece......so it will have a new look the next time you see it! I'll make that an entirely different blog...and you can vote which way you like it best! How's that for looking at the bright side...LOL???
