Welcome to another peek inside my head!
I’d like to introduce this colorful bed as the “MOST COLORFUL” bed that I’ve ever created….but it’s not! I actually painted an ornately carved french bed into a LION….LOL! Yep…customer’s request….maybe I’ll share it with you one day!
This Yellow Boho Gypsy bed is layered with so much color and goodness…..that it just makes me happy to be in the same room with it!
This bed was originally purchased on FB marketplace in Abilene, Texas and hauled to San Antonio by my son….just because he knows me…and he knew I’d love it….and turn it into something fun and fancy!
Maybe you like the traditional look of the “before”….but I see it as an open canvas for me to create upon!
I created much of this piece in a three part You Tube video that I encourage you to check out here if you are the type that likes to see the actual process such as paint layering, painting stripes and applying the floral transfers.
I know that a 3 part video series may just be too much for a lot of y’all to watch. Lol. So I have created a short (less than 10-minute) video here that takes all the best parts for my busy friends!
The bed was cleaned with White Lightning, prepped with BOSS primer in clear and base coated with Colonel Mustard. I then created the stripes with Rebel Yellow OVER the Colonel Mustard.
The bold colors were added in my typical color washing fashion……and I just love this drippy organic movement! I used several new colors from the exclusive Flea Market Decor line that Dixie Belle is currently offering. I used the Flea Market Reclaimed Barn Red and Patina Green….as well as the traditional DB Peacock. I think the colors on the sides of the foot board work together like jewel tones and add a dramatic flair!
The inspiration for this piece came directly from the furniture transfers! The headboard was meant to have something featured and the statement “free spirit” on the Passion Flower transfer sent me down the whole “boho-gypsy” road! I was drawn to the fuchsias and purples and shades of red in green in the transfer itself. You can also see the In Flight transfer in the footboard picture above. I trimmed the feathers and placed them in the corners layering them over the flower blooms. It is subtle….but adds so much charm!
Now can we talk about that “grunge and glam” mixed finish??? If you look closely at the decorative mold in the below photo you can see that I used the metallic decorative waxes here. You can purchase similar metallic waxes by DB in Anastasia, Hammered Copper and Turquoise Teal for that same iridescent look. I also used Best Dang Wax in Brown for shading and shadowing! It’s amazing to watch your painted finish change before your eyes when you are brave enough to try this amazing product! I crammed….like seriously crammed….it into every corner, crease, line, intersection on the entire bed to give it that gypsy traveled look!
I know she’s bold! And I realize the look is not for everyone! But my social media followers are calling her the “happy bed”….so who wouldn’t want to wake up in that bed everyday?!?!?!?!?

Thank you so much!!! It was such a fun project to create with such unexpected colors!
a clear 9″ triangle helps TREMENDOUSLY in helping to make those stripes verticle, using the other edge against the horizontal edge.
