I don’t work on miniatures very often…..but I have found that losing myself and my thoughts in tiny little projects is better than any blood pressure medicine on the market! These whimsical top hats are no exception.
I created these caroler’s hats….which I have taken to an Alice in Wonderland Top Hat vibe…..for my Whimsical Christmas Tree group. This is a group of ladies that I meet in an online course just once a month…and we are creating Whimsical Christmas trees…..one project at a time.
It is so much fun that I’ve decided to offer this club membership again for next year (2020) and build a new tree with a new theme! Stay tuned for that info…sign up below to be the first notified when I release the details!
I have a little back story that I would love to share with you about these hats…..it’s sort of long…..but it has real meaning.
If you ever wonder what sort of impact you are having on someone’s life…..or if you ever question the plan for your life…..I do believe this little story is a perfect example of……”there really is a plan”…..just trust the plan!
We cross paths with many people over the course of our lives. And social media has amplified that beyond comprehension for me. People ebb and flow through the years and I find myself wondering how they are…..yet I just plain SUCK with follow through and communication. I’ll be completely honest and say it again…..I suck with the “keeping up” with people that I adore. And then you add the masses of which we meet in the social media realm and how does one ever keep up?
Regardless…..they often leave a lasting imprint on my heart and I hope to do the same in return.
So what does that have to do with these adorable top hats that I created?
It takes me back to ta special lady that left a lasting impression on me and I’ve fallen right into my “suck” mode and not kept up with her…..yet she blessed me beyond measure once again while I created these little hats and she doesn’t even know it.
Let me explain….
She gifted me the most amazing Alice in Wonderland journal that she crafted herself. She is a crazy crazy talented mixed media artist! Along with my journal that she mailed to me…..arrived a packet full of handcrafted, dyed and embossed papers (yes…she MADE the papers)! It was also filled with tiny little trinkets and adornments…..all made by her in a whimsical style.
I loved them! But I honestly had no clue how or when I’d ever use them….as I was JUST a furniture painter and never saw myself having time to play with or create miniatures! So I tucked them away in a safe place (mind you that was a miracle in itself….I don’t keep anything) and they became long forgotten.
Fast forward to now….three years later…..and the need to create these top hats for my Whimsical Christmas Tree group. I pulled my stash of scrapbook papers of out storage (which I never use) and while digging…this little envelope plopped out and fell at my feet!!! It was the envelope full of the gorgeous handcrafted papers and all the tiny trinkets and adornments! It was everything and more….that I had already envisioned for my top hat designs!!!!
It left me speechless….and almost emotional! I just stood there in awe!!
How did she know???? How did she know so many years ago that I would need them….actually visualize them….on a much larger platform to teach and guide others in their own creativity???
I know this is not life-altering or earth-shattering….it’s a small and subtle message. But it is still a piece to my puzzle of life…..and even the subtle messages and shifts matter.
I believe it was part of “the plan”…..I really do!
My work is “pre-school” in comparison to hers…but this made the top hat project so much more meaningful! Touching and creating with the little trinkets and papers that she so carefully created for me….in hopes that one day I would be still long enough…to create something with me…..moves me!
So the point to this story is this:
You never know what impression you are leaving on peoples hearts.
Do your absolute best to shine your light and share a small piece of yourself with everyone you have the honor of spending time with. Even if you never ever see them again….you likely will make some impression on their future lives that neither of you is even aware of.
