Free Ultimate Furniture Painting Guide

Fun mini whimsical piano with a heartbreaking story

Sometimes I take being extra & fancy too far and it all comes crashing down. Like this mini whimsical piano...

This sweet old vintage girl that has survived who knows how many years...likely tolerated multiple moves, kids, and yard sales....was discovered by none other than ME! Every single key still played....and I just fell in love with her!

But then I ruined her.

Listen...if you ever get the idea to attempt an epoxy pour....and you think you've carefully taped and covered every crevice.....check again....and again.

My epoxy poured right through a single opening in my tape.....and filled the inside of the keyboard overnight.

The sweet old girl lost her song and my heart is broken.

The epoxy looks amazing though! I used Stone Coat Quick Coat (part A and B). I added a soft shimmer pink mica powder and large pink glitter that I had here in the shop. It was VERY simple to do! I followed the product directions and the pour went without a hitch.....with the major exception of my tape leak issue. The surface was dry to touch by the next morning!

So.......I decided to just be completely free with her overall dress-up....and throw every product on her at once! I used her sweet little piano shape to show that all brands actually can play together well!

You can see some of my other epoxy-pour projects on my blog like the laundry room countertops and these faux crocodile nightstands.

I painted the entire piano in Dixie Belle Manatee Gray and added stripes in Hurricane Gray. I even painted her yellowed keys with Fluff.

I applied the Redesign with Prima Transfers Imperial Garden and Zebra and Gingham! Yep! I used three transfers! So easy to apply...just cut to size...peel back the paper...and rub into place!

I applied Wood U Bend molds over the transfers....using 2447, 2092, and the tiny crown. I used the Tite Bond glue for a quick and easy heat application using my heat gun!

I chose Artistic Painting Studios Deco Foils for the legs and base. I used both Antique Mirror and the new Melody. I applied the Foil Adhesive with a small brush to the areas I wanted to place the foil and waited 30 minutes for the tack to set up. I then placed the foil over the sticky adhesive.... rubbed with the bristles of an old toothbrush.... and lifted away! So easy!

I used the Dixie Belle Damask stencil (not available yet) on the sides....layering on top of the existing two-tone gray stripes. I chose Posh Chalk Interior patina in Pale Gold as my stencil medium. I also used the same patina as a highlight around the edges of the piano and to lightly dust all molds.

She's a bit of a hot mess....but it's my fault!

I actually think she's fun! I love the flea market vibe she now carries..... even without her song!

Once I recovered from the guilt of ruining her.....I really enjoyed dressing up this whimsical piano!

I have no doubt you will see her as a prop in future furniture photoshoots.

I recently painted a piano-themed armoire that is big and bold and has a wonderful story (including pictures of me as a young girl playing the piano). You should check it out HERE.
