How long is forever? Sometimes just one second!
The famous answer from the White Rabbit in answer to Alice's question.
He is certainly correct in that we simply cannot waste even a second living in a world without whimsy and color....if this is what feeds your soul!
Let me share my newest whimsical Easter decor project...presenting my whimsical black and white checkered bunny statue...polka dot jacket !

And I thought it was wood...
So let's get busy painting ALL THE THINGS including this adorable raw bunny that I purchased at Michaels on clearance!
I honestly thought he was wood....but I soon learned otherwise when I tossed him into my car and hear him break!
Yep....broke that soon to be whimsical bunny ear right off his cute little head!
Nothing that a little super glue couldn't fix.
Now for paint!

Whimsical Easter Decor: Checkered Bunny Statue
Now for paint!
I gave him a single coat of Fluff (my go-to white) as a base for the whimsical checkered pattern he was about to try on!
Creating the Detailed Checkered Pattern
I then spent a crazy amount of time drawing intersecting vertical and horizontal lines.....in the best way possible around all the curves and nuances of his face, ears, hands, arms and body.
Once I had him drawn out I wasn't quite sure that I wanted to actually paint him a solid check!
Maybe I wanted to give him a cute little coat or jacket?
So I finished him completely from the neck up...just to get a good feel.
I painted in every other square in Caviar black.
Love gold accents on my Whimsical Easter Decor!
I knew I wanted to gold leaf the inside of his ears.....so I did just that!
I used Stick With Me Adhesive....and loose leaf sheets.
Applying gold leafing is really a lot of fun! Click HERE to for my Gold Leafing 101 blog with everything you need to know to apply gold leaf successfully the first time!
I liked it so much that I chose to do his cute little nose and hands as well.
Whimsical Easter bunny needs a jacket
It was at this point that I knew I wanted to paint a jacket for him.
I painted his body and arms in French Linen....and made whimsical oversized polka-dots with fluff.
I have a scrap pile of molds that I have poured...and not used.....in a drawer for possible future projects.
I knew I had a stop watch of some sort and sure enough....I already had this adorable clock that was the perfect fit to hang around his neck!
So I gave it a quick coat of detailed paint...trimming it in gold and rubbing a bit of black on the roman numerals and clock hands.....and glued it in place! I couldn't believe how perfect the fit was!
Getting the Finish Just Right
Now that he was completely whimsical....he appeared a bit flat and also TOO bright!
So I gave him a few coats of Top Coat in Gloss for a playful sheen.....I love whimsy in high gloss!
And finally.....I brushed this brightly checked whimsical rabbit with Best Dang Wax in brown...and immediately wiped almost all of it away...leaving just enough to give the bunny age and character!
The Finished Look: Whimsical Easter Bunny Decor
Isn't he adorable??
And those glasses? I ordered a pair of doll glasses on Amazon. They don't fit well because....well....bunny ears. But they still look so dang adorable and they give him just the right amount of personality!
So remember.....life is too short to live with boring home decor! Especially holiday decor!
Get those paints out my friend....and whimsify your world!
