Where are all my teachers? Do you choose a theme for your room every year? My days of getting to decorate the teachers doors are gone...and I really do miss them. I loved being room-mom all those years and decorating the door for special occasions!
BUT......I now have TWO daughter-in-laws and they are BOTH teachers!
So I am back in the door decorating scene!! I can't wait to share my whimsical door decoration for the start of the new school year.
If you are a new reader, hello and welcome to the Fancy Fam! Curiouser & Curiouser
Tiffany chose "Curiouser and Curiouser" as her room theme this year. She found an image online and asked if I could create this for her door.
I used this image for reference.
Creating the Whimsical Door Decoration
I asked her to bring home black paper from school. I thought the design would be really cute done in black and white....sort of like book illustration.
I simply used chalk to draw out the design by hand.
Now, if drawing by hand isn't your thing, you could project a digital image onto the paper and trace it like I did here for this cheerleader mural.
But this design was quite easy....so I opted to freehand it.
Tracing the Final Whimsical Door Decoration Design
Once I had the design just the way I like it......I used a setting spray to keep the chalk from smearing while I painted it. It also seals the chalk which helps keep your paint pens from clogging with chalk dust while tracing over it.
I then used a white paint pen to trace out everything that had been drawn in chalk. I even embellished some areas a bit with doodle art!
I love how the white pops off the black!
And finally....I used the IOD Stamps and DB Fluff to add the words!
Isn't it adorable?
The Finished Look: Whimsical Door Decoration
Once the door covering was in place at school, Tiffany added little top hats that we made that had each of the kids names on them.
I have no doubt each child stood at this door on that first day looking for their name!
I love imagining that!
I am honored to have been asked to help with this project for the first day of school! And I'm already working on another project for her class!
She choose my favorite theme....maybe she did that on purpose! LOL!
