Free Ultimate Furniture Painting Guide

Whimsical Christmas decorations: jumbo ornaments

I saw these jumbo finial ornaments at Homegoods last year and it was love at first sight! I have used them many times in my staging sessions for work....as well as decorated with them in all their gold glory here in my home last Christmas. The original gold was beautiful but I was ready for whimsical Christmas decorations!

I honestly knew as soon as I saw them that I would paint them someday....I just wasn't sure when or how.

Well, that time is NOW!

I wasn't sure if I needed to use Slick Stick first....as there was a slight texture already.....but it is metal....and my motto is....when in doubt...PRIME! So I did!

Slick Stick is used on glass and Formica and ceramic tile....any surface that is slick and needs tooth/grit before painting. It's a game-changer for the hardcore painter that paints ALL the things....you know one of those right? LOL!

I then painted the entire ornament in Fluff by Dixie Belle....and used my heat-gun to force dry (because I'm impatient).

My biggest tip that I have for you today is this......rubber bands!!!

GENIUS HACK #1: When painting horizontal stripes on a round object....use rubber bands to draw your lines!!! You can see here, I placed the rubberbands where I wanted my lines....and used the sharpie marker to actually draw them!

I then drew my horizontal lines in a free-handed form.

GENIUS HACK #2: Make sure to always create an even number of spaces of stripes when you plan to paint with two colors.....so you don't make it all the way around and end up with two of the same color next to each other.

I drew my circles free-hand but you could easily trace a quarter or a bottle cap top for yours.

I then filled in all the open spaces where I wanted black....with my Caviar paint by Dixie Belle (1 coat)!

I let this dry and topped with two coats of Dixie Belle's Top Coat in Gloss for a gorgeous shine on these whimsical Christmas decorations!
