I was asked to transform this short little piece into a fun whimsical bookshelf.
I will admit that, at first, I was not thrilled! Let’s be honest….it is lacking in character and is just not very cute!
My client asked that I paint it to match a china cabinet that I revamped for her about 3 years ago. Her colors were very specific….sort of Mary Englebreit colors…..as it houses a collection of Scottie dogs that are very special to her.
So…..one short blue shelf (that she paid only $10 for)….and four fabulous colors from my Dixie Belle Paint…..and let’s see what we can make happen!
1. Cleaned with White Lightning
2. Primed with BOSS in white.
3. Painted entire piece in Fluff.
4. Harlequin pattern applied to top and sides with Caviar.
5. Inside painted in Rebel Yellow
6. Accent checks in front done in Caviar.
7. Stripes applied in Honky Tonk Red.
Check out my online tutorial to learn exactly how I make the perfect harlequin pattern and stripes every time. You can do it too!
8. Sealed with Big Mommas Butter.
And there you go!
It is the perfect addition to the previously painted china hutch…..and it now has been filled with more Scottie dog pieces!
I enjoyed this project!
And can I just mention how impressed I am that my client saw potential in that sad little blue shelf???
It’s never a boring day in the shop with my clients!
