Once it was completely painted….I used my electric sander and went to town with it. I wanted to make this piece look aged and raw and very farmhouse! I love how it turned out. The mix of rough wood and old paint and metal grommets is oddly satisfying to me.
Heirloom Traditions Paint in Repose (the gray) and Irish Cream (the white). The paint is chalk based which makes it very open to distressing!!! Once I had it distressed to the level I wanted….I sealed the entire piece with a layer of their Gel Wax in clear….which if you haven't tried the new gel waxes….you really need to make that happen!!!
My next upcycled cable spool art was for a girl!!! I know…it doesn't seem possible to make something so huge and raw and masculine for a baby girls nursery….but we did! Isn't it amazing??? Completely opposite of the boy art….full of color!!! You can see this wall art mounted above the crib in my Boho Nursery Tour here.
Raven….also by HTP. I used Irish Cream (white) for the words….and the work WILD was done in Mint Julep. The green vines and leaves were done with HTP's Tiffany (the aqua color). The fuchsia pink and other flowers were done with acrylic paints that I had on hand. I will list all paint products for both projects in my shop section below….for you DIY lovers!!!!
