The first piece in my Summer Stripe Series is a pink striped mini pie table transformed with my custom mixed pink that I refer to as Cotton Candy and Dixie Belle's Apricot.
I chose to use these two colors together....as they are my favorite colors in a summer sunset.

If you are a new reader, hello and welcome to the Fancy Fam! A family heirloom that was just too dark & heavy
This little table was not a thrift.....in fact, it is an heirloom passed down from Matt's dad's home.

However, in its original color I just haven't been able to work it into our decor. Which says a lot because it takes up very little space.....

The original finish was just too dark and heavy.
Well, not anymore...

Summer Stripe Series: Pink & Apricot
This pink striped mini table took me just over an hour to complete. What an impact in a short amount of time!
Let me show you how...
Always Prep before Painting
Prior to painting, I did clean the piece with White Lightning.
I alway forget to photograph this step as it is just plain boring. However it is SO important.
The proprietary blend of cleaning agents in this product not only remove any and all oils, cleaners, dirt and grime, it even dulls the shine of the original finish which is so helpful!
The only thing you need to make sure you do is to wipe down one final time with JUST water after you've cleaned with White Lightning. You don't want to leave any of the clearer on the surface so it doesn't interfere with your paint adhesion.
Time to Paint!
This summer, I'm taking on a playful challenge: to transform a collection of the tables using nothing more than TWO colors and the power of a simple stripe pattern.
The first in the series, Sunset Sugar, will be created using only the paint colors Cotton Candy & Apricot!

I applied a single coat of Apricot to the top surface. This is the "scratch" coat... and will not be pretty YET.

I painted a scratch coat on the base of the table AND the "skirt" under the rim in my custom color Cotton Candy.
PRO TIP #1: Make sure to turn your tiny tables over to double check for any unpainted areas.
PRO TIP #2: I often use small craft brushes to paint the tiny tables. These smaller brushes allow me to get into the curves and details much easier.
The scratch coat is a thin coat that dries very quickly.....usually within 15 minutes. Once this coat was dry, I just repeated the same process above by applying a second coat.
Look at the difference in the surface of the table between the first and second coat!

Don't ever be discourage by that first scratch coat.....always know it will look better soon!
Side Note... I snapped this picture because when I looked down I just saw beauty in the overused paint drop cloth of projects form the past AND the fact that what you see here is the only product and supplies that I used for this piece....which is crazy because I usually have SO many products out during my projects!

Once the second coat of paint was dry, I used a business card to mark off my stripes with a chalk pencil.

I could have taped them off....but to be honest.....I don't really like to use tape on paint that is freshly painted and hasn't had a fair amount of time to cure. It runs the risk of paint lifting when you remove the tape and that always just ruins the fun!
Using a small craft brush, I painted every other stripe with Apricot.
AND THIS Pink Striped Mini Table is the Final Look!
How joyful is this little cutie?!?!

And how simple was that?!?!
Doesn't it just make you smile?

Why did I not do this sooner??? I've had this table crammed in a corner of the garage for probably a year!
I do plan to apply a protective coat.....but I like to let my pieces dry for a few days and I just didn't have time to do that before sharing with you. I will apply two thin coats of Clear Coat Satin for a nice low sheen and lasting protection.
I already have three other tables ready to join this series!
What color combo should I do next?
