Nothing makes me feel more like an artist than when I’m paint blending on a furniture surface! Which is really sort of silly since any painting style is art! But this stunning eye-catching sunset colored and blended headboard is is one of those that really fired me up!
What is crazy is that paint blending is a much faster and easier technique than almost any other painting technique that I use!!! There are no rules or boundaries. It is a very free technique that you really cannot mess up!
I think it may be because it requires you to use multiple colors….and multiple brushes….rather quickly.....and at the same time!!! So you feel sort of like a crazed passionate artist!
You throw down some paint….spritz a little water…..swoosh the brushes in multiple directions….and watch new colors form!!!
I covered this bed in a base coat of Flamingo. I then used paint in the following order, Daisy > Florida Orange > Flamingo > Peony > Plum Crazy. I used my water bottle to activate (wet) the paint as I went and focused on the band where the colors meet. I sprayed with water for a subtle and less obvious color transition.
I then topped the raised carvings with the DB gilding wax in Turquoise Teal!
I sealed the finished bed with two coats of Gator Hide for a nice sheen and long lasting protection.
