Soft Yellow Farmhouse Buffet Transformation

January 30, 2019 by Tracey Bellion Filed Under: Dining Room, Hutch/Buffets, Painted Furniture 7 Comments

Nope! You’re not crazy!

Yep! You’ve seen this buffet!

Just two weeks ago I shared with you a much brighter version with gingham checks. You can see that HERE…

My client liked the checks but felt they didn’t work well with her current decor…and kindly asked if I would remove them. THEN….after careful consideration…..I decided to also repaint the entire piece in a softer yellow. The brighter yellow was just too FUN….for the soft and cozy room it would be featured in.

I chose to repaint the piece in Dixie Belle’s Rebel Yellow. It is a soft buttery yellow that is very easy on the eyes! You can see in the photo below the comparison of the two colors….Rebel Yellow vs. Daisy…..both by Dixie Belle.

Repainting was easy….and I was happy to do it! It only took one coat to sufficiently cover the brighter yellow….some light distressing for accent….and then a nice easy application of Easy Peasy Spray Wax to seal the finish.

I LOVE when I can compare a piece like this! In fact…..having the opportunity to show you both versions really excites me….and the side to side is the best way!

For those that will ask…..removing the decor transfer was just as easy. Just a few scrapes with a paint scraper and it was back down to raw wood! I re-primed the recessed squares with BOSS in white to stop potential bleed through….and then coated with one coat of Rebel Yellow.

Both the paint AND the design transfers are available via my shop section below. Just click on the little words of each photo below and it will take you straight to the shopping page!

I ran a poll on both Instagram and Facebook and the lighter version of this soft yellow farmhouse buffet won both social media votes hands down!!! What’s YOUR favorite??

Softer version gets my vote, too! Both are beautiful, but the softer yellow seems more calming to me. Love your re-do projects, Tracey. They always give me inspiration to step out of my comfort zone….so Thank You!! Blessings!

Both are beautiful but I prefer the look of Provence in the brighter yellow with more blue in the check. In fact we just bought a house (a real fixer upper; my last as I am 75) a few months ago and you have struck a cord.
Love all your artwork-very inspiring-you are having fun in your life and it shows.

Love the lighter color. Can you repaint over Gator Hide or do you need to sand it off first? What about wax? Thanks!

a light sanding of any surface is always optimal….but is not actually necessary. You can paint right over it!
