Would you believe it if I told you my son and I finished this room in 24 hours......and exactly one week later to the day......he received transfer orders to JAPAN?????? This house will soon be on the market.....I hope they like drippy rain washed wall murals!!!
Brody has asked for this finish on their crazy tall bedroom walls since the moment he saw my nursery makeover in Kentucky. Did you see it? He loved the dramatic yet soft effect and he absolutely could not stand the current color of his room....peacock blue. You can see the sea of blue below....
We chose a base color called Pussywillow from Lowes. I almost always do the "cutting in" of my wall painting projects. However I've never done them on walls this tall before.....and I think I experienced my very first true panic attack.....at the 16 ft. point. I worked through it in my typical warrior way while Brody all but laughed until he dropped to the floor! I will say.....never again without scaffolding!
Brody stuck to the EASY job of rolling....which got really easy with this crazy Paint Stick Suction Paint Roller contraption. I have NO affiliation with this particular company.....I just want to share the goodness and hope that whoever invented it is a gazillionaire because of it.
Brody really wanted to learn this drippy technique himself....and he picked it up quite easily. You really need nothing more than a good chalk paint like Dixie Belle Paints which is made with natural minerals that give you that washed look quite easily with lots of water!
We used a combination of colors over the Pussy Willow.....but mostly Drop Cloth, Burlap and Manatee Gray. All colors and products are listed in the shop section with clickable links at the end of this blog. It does help to have two people....even with the best of plastic sheeting below. There is a ton of water run off....and having someone below to hand you supplies while maintaining the floods below makes the project so much easier!
I realize this is not a look that will be appreciated by everyone.....but those that love it.....usually REALLY love it! It gives such a serene vibe to the room! Its almost as if you can smell fresh rain! It is pretty amazing the difference it made!
And check out the mirror and nightstands! I whipped those nightstands out in two hours and did a video tutorial for the mirror finish. You can find more details about those in another blog HERE. Brody hung the gorgeous pair of bedside lights that we picked up on our Hobby Lobby run!
We are completely aware that the bedding is lacking in the pillow department....but just flat ran out of time....and I wasn't going to be back any time soon to take pictures again. So we just went with the rumpled bed pillows and single pillow that proudly sums up our decorating mantra....WE CRAZY!!!
