It is with great pleasure that I bring to you this neutral whimsy and classy paint finish!
I had no idea that this Bombay chest project would be so well received by all.
I have received many requests to offer this finish as an online class.....and I am considering it as my first class for 2020.
For now.....I bring you a photo blog of the before, during and after....in hopes to inspire you to incorporate a bit of whimsy into your own decor!
I was asked to paint this beautiful pot-bellied chest that you see below.
It possessed such character and personality even in its original finish. However, the dark finish was just too heavy for the light and airy look that my client was creating with her current decor. She requested a neutral color palette, a whimsical design and a piece that would WOW as it would be featured in her entryway!
I cleaned using White Lightning and used BOSS White to prime. Remember....a good finish starts with a clean surface!
I chose the colors based on a pillow that she brought me from home.
*Drop Cloth (base coat)
I then used the following for the harlequin pattern on the front:
*French Linen (light gray)
*Hurricane Gray (dark gray)

My client asked for whimsy...which the harlequin does for her. But she also LOVES a piece that I did months ago that I call Tattered Elegance. It is NOT whimsical.....so I pulled from that design as well and applied the look to the side panels. You can see that inspiration piece HERE.
I love the juxtaposition of the playful and the organic......the messy and the tidy.....the elegant and the wild....on the same piece.
I also love how just a peek of the drippy look shows itself on the leg from the front view.
I chose gold (instead of silver) to embellish the carvings and the hardware. My client is using both silver and mercury glass in her decor...but she still has touches of antique gold. I felt the multiple gray tones lended enough of the silver vibe already....and the gold really seemed to pop. I am very pleased with the choice....and my client loves it as well!
This is the view that people will see as they enter her home.....as the front door opens with the Bombay chest being on the left.
It is always important for me to understand where and how my furniture art will be displayed. This helps me tremendously when designing the finish. I also believe it ensures customer satisfaction....which is so very important to me!
And just for fun.....this is a behind the scenes view....the large gold ornament was not actually hanging. I asked my daughter Hailey to hold it from above while I shot photos. This is her.....on the step stool....and my granddaughter hanging onto her leg! Three generations......staging a photo.....for you! I hope this final photo makes you smile as much as it does me!
