I've always dreamed of jewelry for furniture! Today's blog is just that!
The new The Gilded Age design transfer on this armoire offers a variety of elements such as scrolls, framework, florals, lace trim and JEWELS....and is my very own brainchild!
The only thing that would make it better is if there were MORE jewels!
If you are a new reader, hello and welcome to the Fancy Fam! With over a decade of furniture painting experience, I can honestly say that sharing my projects through this blog is still my favorite way to inspire! I've got years worth of fun and creative ways to update your home decor and furniture through paint! The Design Plan
I realize this is an opulent transfer option and is certainly not meant for the minimalist or farmhouse vibe.
Instead...it is intended for those that love the EXTRA, the maximalist, the FANCY......and that is ME and YOU!
The transfer is a balance of powdery soft jewel tones, shades of the sunset and even a few neutrals.
Before I start any painting, I always thoroughly clean the piece and determine if it will need a primer coat. Learn all about how I prep furniture for chalk paint HERE!
Before
What you see will see on this single piece of furniture is a SINGLE transfer and I even had a few pieces left over. But FIRST...the before!

Gilded Age Design Transfer Armoire
I chose a sunset color palette.....but this transfer could be paired with ANY color! I plan to use it soon with a black and white pattern!
Applying the Base Coat
I began by painting the entire piece in Rebel Yellow...just a single coat....planning to leave the yellow as the central "glow" color.
Color Blending...and a lot of it!
I followed this with Flamingo around the doors and drawers. And then with Peony as the outermost color around the doors and drawers.
I then finished out the base with the deeper Plum Crazy.
I really wanted to pull in my favorite violet color...and I achieve this by mixing Peacock with Plum Crazy using a 2:1 ratio (more Plum than Peacock)
This color was applied to the top of the piece and blended down onto the doors.
And also added to the legs and lightly blended up toward the drawers.
Once all three sides were blended using this same color palette and technique.....I allowed it to dry about an hour or two before applying the transfer.
Adding the Gilded Age Design Transfer on the Armoire
The Gilded Age transfer is very versatile. It is a buildable transfer meaning it comes in lots of individual pieces that can be used in any form or design you'd like.
I chose the lace trim for the drawer fronts and added this first!
Isn't it gorgeous?
The center of the lace is transparent so whatever color you've painted it shows through!
I chose the florals for the center of the upper portion which required me to cut the floral bouquets in half for the door openings but it still maintained its beauty!
The sheet of the transfer than contains the jewels is my favorite!!
I sprinkled the jewels into the design such as the center pearl and ruby broach which I also cut in half for the doors.
The square broaches were added to the right and left corners of the teal scroll framework and plan to make these more central on my next piece. I love them!
And finally....the dangle pieces are so fun and can be added anywhere!
Once complete......I lightly burnished all transfer pieces to work out any air bubbles and help to marry the transfer to the paint.
The Finished Look
The whole piece was sealed with satin top coat for a smooth and easy finish!
I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed creating it.....and that you feel inspired to give this FANCY transfer a try!
I plan to create my next jeweled piece by mixing this transfer with my other Whimsical Wonderland transfer......so hold onto your hats....it's going to be good!!!
