I'm going to refer to this project as trash art....in the best way.
Over the last 4-5 years, I have become a thrifting champion! In all honesty, I've been thrifting my entire adult life....but mostly for furniture that I could up-cycle.
I seem to have grown a fondness to smaller items lately and I really do believe I have a good eye for beauty in the most broken things. Like this handmade scrap-wood box turned floral wooden centerpiece tray.

Before: a thrift find that I couldn't stop thinking about!
I first saw this scrap-wood homemade box at my local thrift store.....and didn't buy it.
But I couldn't quit thinking about it.
I loved the crackle of the layered paint, the elongated size and the fact that it was made from several different types of wood.
So I returned a few days later and was very pleased to see it was still there.
The Design Plan: my cottage vibe scrap-wood box
My first thought was to turn it into a dog food/water dish buffet and I still think that is a really good idea. I also thought I might turn it into a plant stand for my covered courtyard...that would hold small pots and jars with herbs and clippings.
When I saw the new Antique Flora package that held three cottage vibe bouquets, I thought how perfect they would look in my cottage vibe scrap-wood box.....as a centerpiece on a table.

Handmade Wooden Floral Centerpiece Tray
This may be the fastest project that I've ever completed! The longest part of the whole thing was waiting 24 hours for the hair pin legs to arrive from Amazon!
While I waited for that delivery.....I got busy with a good clean to the box....and applied each bouquet.
Applying the Antique Flora Transfer
My favorite bouquet is the one in the center....the colors are perfect.
I then used the two bouquets with lilies to flank it on either side.
Once burnished well....I brushed on a simple coat of Clear Coat in Flat.....to keep the raw unfinished look.
Elevating the Look with Hairpin Legs (literally)
The hairpin legs arrived the next day....and Matt installed them for me....which took all of about 5 minutes total.
I LOVE how lifting this box up on legs completely changed its look! It's as if it stood up and demanded attention!
The Finished Look: Floral Wooden Centerpiece Tray
I lined the box with multiple candlesticks in various heights.....and placed an assortment of colored tapered candles in them to accentuate the colors from the floral bouquets.
I considered adding more of the bouquets to the front of the box....but I really liked the peek-a-boo effect of the floral bouquets being inside the box.....but I also didn't want to cover up a single square inch of that crackle on the front wood!
I can see this centerpiece being a great place to show off many other items as well.....like slender vases with small florals, gathered twigs/pinecones and antlers from a nature walk, even condiments for a dinner party.
And that is the story of the trash art cottage vibe scrap wood centerpiece turned candle holder!
What do you think? Do you think I should have made it into the doggie buffet?
