Free Ultimate Furniture Painting Guide

Blue Green Painted Bombay Chest with Gold Highlights

Sometimes, a furniture piece just needs a second (or third) chance.  I originally painted this carved Bombay chest in a very different finish, but it never found its forever home.  So when Dixie Belle Paint introduced a brand new color, I knew this was the perfect piece to try it on....and WOW, am I glad I did! Check out this blue green painted Bombay chest with gold highlights!

New Products Alert!

This new color, Blue Grass, is a fresh smoky blue-green....and it absolutely transforms the look of the Bombay style chest.

AND....to take it a step further, I embellished those gorgeous details with the brand new gilding wax color...Antique Gold

This version is softer and more subtle than their traditional gold wax, giving it a delicate aged finish which is a perfect pairing with the new paint color!

The result?  A VAST difference from its last look....that's for sure!

This finish is elegant....and I'm hopeful it will be easier for someone to imagine it in their own home.

Time for Some Paint!

As for my process, I simply just painted it!

I didn't prime over the old metal leafing or the bold color.  I just gave it a good wipe down, opened the jar of paint....and began painting!

That is the beauty of a quality chalk paint.  It really doesn't require much prep as long as the surface you are painting is intact and you are familiar with what paint was used on it to begin with.

I applied the oil based Antique Gold gilding wax both with my finger and a brush.

After allowing it to fully cure for 72 hours, I brushed on two layers of Clear Top Coat in a satin finish.....onto the entire chest.
