I have no idea how I will manage to put my feelings about this month into words….
One Day at a Time?
From Point A to Point B?
What I do know….is it ends tomorrow and I will not miss it! Bring on JUNE! I am armed and ready with my flip-flops and sunscreen….because I REFUSE to let ONE MORE month take control of my life the way May did!
As for “this blog post”….I am going to make a feeble attempt to give you a GLIMPSE into my “before and after” world of the last 30 days. This post WILL NOT include step by step instructions….and will include very little product information. Heirloom Traditions Paint provides almost 100% of all my products used. I will list each project and the products used for it below…just in case any of you would like to reproduce something similar.
The photos in this post are raw and unedited! Just a warning!
In the end….feel free to leave me a comment letting me know that you are ON MY TEAM in regards to telling May 2016 ADIOS! I would feel so much better knowing I am not alone!
The month began with a small but very new project for me. My oldest daughter is expecting her first child and I wanted to make her a little somin’-somin’ for Mothers Day as a “welcome to the world of ALMOST mommy-hood”. I wanted to offer her something to remind her that time does not stand still and to cherish each and every moment of this pregnancy blessing. I am inspired daily by my good friend Heather of Thicketworks. She is a multi-media rock star! I know VERY little about this realm of crafting….and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to venture into her world just a bit. So I gave it a whirl and created this piece you see below. She has asked me to “guest-blog” on her site and I am thrilled to do so in the near future….featuring this little trinket of love.
So here you have the before and after:
The next project was ever so slightly LARGER than the trinket of love. I was asked to transform this king size bed into a replica of a queen size bed that I have done many times. However….this client wanted a Romeo and Juliet sonnet for the wording on the headboard. I will be devoting an entire post in June to the making of this bed and the challenges it offered me. For now….
The before and the glorious after…..
Not a month has gone by that I have not had multiple orders for my mermaid chairs…and May was no different. I believe I completed SEVEN chairs this month….and there are more coming in June. These chairs still entertain me and I enjoy every minute that I invest in creating them.
They go from these…..
…..to these! (this pair is traveling to NYC).
And this lovely is traveling to Magnolia, Texas to The Turquoise Door….an adorable shop that is so worth the road trip from Houston!
I received an order for a twin size bed. A nine year old little girl requested blues/purples/whites and horses! LOLOL! Not even kidding! This design was a challenge for me. NOT the painting aspect…but just wrapping my head around her vision…and bringing it to life in a tasteful manner! I must admit….in the end….I am pleased with this happy piece!
The before….and the happy after!
I received an order for another one of my wall plaque statement pieces. These are being used in baby nurseries above the cribs. I was thrilled when this momma asked for bright greens/whites and silver. This piece will hang against a navy blue wall and I can’t WAIT to see photos of it in the completed nursery. I’ll be sure to post on Instagram and Facebook when she sends them to me. Please follow me on these sites if you aren’t already! I post almost daily to both!
The raw before…and the fancy-but still raw after!
I make salvage signs for Nursery Couture here in San Antonio. They are an upscale baby boutique….and I LOVE being able to say that they carry my products! I painted this sign on a bed rail that was left over from one of my 1800’s European bed transformations. Many people order the antique beds and they don’t need the side rails. The antique beds are full size…and they use converter bed rails that allow them to hold a queen size mattress. GENIUS! So when I have the pretty bed rails left over….I make them into something fancy! These are just the right size to hang over a crib…over a closet door….over a set of windows…or even to top off a gallery wall.
Before (Zadie couldn’t resist the opportunity to be silly) and the after….
This bed below is another example of a full size headboard and footboard that will be used with a queen size mattress. This client wanted a soft grey with metallic silver accents. She has also ordered a nine drawer dresser and two nightstands. I hope to have those completed in June and will post more in depth on the transformation process. It is NEVER boring or predictable here! We go from Romeo and Juliet…to purple horses…to soft and subtle french gray…..all within a few days of each other!
Before….and beautifully after!
Back in December I was asked to create a natural wood plank wall that would be over 16 feet long for their garage (who does this in their garage???)! This photo does not show the entire length….but you get the idea. Let me just tell you that I have been making these walls for 3 years now….and they are NOT easy!! They are very labor intensive….with way too much hauling of wood! But the finished product is alwasy so pleasing to the eye! I used both paints and stains on these boards. I am SO happy with the color combinations….and the clients are too! Mr. Fancy was willing to drive to Houston (4 hours one way) to install this for me…and then drive back…all in ONE day! He’s pretty amazing like that!
The very boring before….and the freakin’ fabulous after!
Over the course of the entire month….while all other projects have been in the works…..this grown daguther of mine can not slow down the growing of her belly! I had to include this “before and after” this month….becuase this is me in the before (pregnant with her) and then her in the after pregnant with her own daughter!
Before…..and 26 years AFTER….
This needs to be included in the frenzy of this month because it has played a large part in my schedule. EVERY spare second that I have had has been spent helping Hailey and Trevor build a beautiful nursery for their baby that is due in September. Hailey is a planner….and a list maker….and just a little bit controlling….(don’t have a clue where she gets that from)! I plan to post an entire blog on this nursery transformation…but for now you will get a few snippets of the progress.
BEFORE…..moulding corners (pic 1) and a sample square to choose metallic wall stencil paint (pic 2)
AFTER…..accent wall feature painted and moulding being attached…..
So far we have:
scraped the popcorn from the ceiling…..repainted the ceiling…..painted the walls…..painted and stenciled and framed out the feature wall….painted all dark trim white…added crown molding….demo’d the closet…….installed a new light fixture….ordered bedding…..ordered rocker….ordered rug…..hauled the huge crib (its a secret and a one of a kind original hand made)….prepared crib to paint…..hung angel wings…..aaaannnnndddd thats it for now! By the time this actaully post I am sure several more items will have been checked off Hailey’s list!
So below you see Trevor in all his ultra-fancy painting day clothes! Trevor NEVER wears boring socks! EVER! In fact….our Christmas gift to him this past year was a monthly subscription to fantastic sock delivery! I just realized his socks sort of look like my horse bed!!! I also included the photo of my shadow….for a couple of reasons. I would not dare let my own painting day garb be photographed….I thought my shadow looked like something from Who-ville…..and becuase I really just feel like a shadow this month!!!!! TIME is leaving me in the shadows damn it!
Speaking of time flying…..my third grader is wrapping up her school year this week. Zadie will officially be “almost a fourth grader” in just a few days! I am the room mother OF COURSE ( last year of this and I mean it this time) and somehow had to muster up the creative juices to plan her “end of the year” party. So we are going out with a Summer Bash….and to make it easy on myself I just ordered all party supplies online from Oriental Trading Company!!!! Everything came in one big box and this was so much easier than running all over town!
So my “almost 4th grader (pic 1) and the box of party supplies (pic 2).
Are you tired yet????? I’m tired!
So on a much lighter note and NOT work related……
We went on a VACATION!!!!! Matt and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary this year….and left this madness behind for just a few days in May. We spent some time in Playa del Carmen and I just have no words…….(except I wanted to stay forever!!!)
And lastly…..on another light note…..my dear friend Paige from Panama City Beach came to see me for FIVE glorious days this month! I miss her so much….and having her close was so fulfilling to my love tank.
So there you have it! Me! In the raw! Busy….rushed….spazzed out…..chasing my tail! This isn’t Instagram folks! Nothing is tidy here this month! Nothing is in order! It is just one “before and after” after the other!!!! I can’t even believe I actually snagged photos in this madness! I vow to you…..my next post will be perky and uplifting…..I just couldn’t fake it this time! It’s all good in the hood though I promise…..I’m still smiling!
